Since 2016 capsuleers have contributed to science through Project Discovery, a citizen science project set in the EVE Online Universe. The project is a collaboration between CCP Games, the makers of mmorpg EVE Online, MMOS and various research institutes around the world. Through this effort EVE players have managed to make a meaningful impact on science, from searching for exoplanets to researching COVID-19.
